Athletics

Talofa lava bloggers, on the 2nd of November was athletics day. Before we got started everyone had to sit on the court with your age group. The time we started the athletics was 9:15. After that we finally got to start. My group went to the 400 meter run first it was so much fun and tiring. My favourite part of the day was the house relays. The house names are Pukeko, Tui, Kea, and Ruru. I'm in Pukeko. My second favourite activity was the high jump. On the day there were different activities like Tennis, Discus, Hurdles and more. When I was doing my sprints I felt really nervous, but when I started to run my confidence came back. I really enjoyed the day, because everyone was having fun and being really nice to each other. The activity for me was the 400 meter heats, but I go through it. Overall the day was really fun. I hope you enjoyed this blog. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Gymnastics

Gymnastics

Talofa lava bloggers. Last week and this week we have been doing gymnastics. I went with my class and another from my school to Trisatar. When we got to Tristar we had to take our shoes and sock off. We went on Monday and we went last week as well. People from Tristar have also been coming to teach us some gymnastic moves at school. The thing I like about the gymnastics is that we can learn new moves. My favourite stretch for our warm ups, is the tuck shape. My favourite thing about Tristar is the trampoline.  I really enjoyed having the races in our small groups.  My group came second. When we do gymnastics at school I like playing the games like tag, stuck in the mud, toilet tag and more. I really like doing gymnastics. By bloggers. Wish me luck for my test next week.

Summer Learning Journey Australia

Talofa Lava bloggers, today someone from the Summer Learning Journey came into our syndicate to tell us about the programme. She told us about what we could do in our spare time in the holidays. She told us that our grades drop when we finish school. I want to go to Australia, because the beaches look so cool. I also want to go there so that I can sign up for one of the league teams like Brisbane Broncos. https://sites.google.com/site/summerlearningjourney/welcome

My Movie

Hi bloggers, last term the whole syndicate made movies. The movies had to be about change. We had to make a movie that explained what change is. First in individuals we had to get used to the shots what kind of shots I could use in the movie. These are the shots I could be using up, down, close, medium, long.  Second, we got into the groups. Then we had to make a story board about what we were going to do in our movie. In my group was Me, Conrad, James, JD. My movie was about changing genders. I think my groups movie could of been better because our ending was kind of off. My favourite part was when we were playing basketball. The hard part of making the movie was getting the props but we got through it. Until next time. Blog you later. Here is our movie.

Waikowhai Intermediate Show

Hi guys, yesterday we went to Waikowhai Intermediate to watch the show called, "This Is Me". We went to the school by bus that Waikowhai Intermediate paid for. The year fives were lucky enough to go with us because they weren't meant to come. When we got there we had to wait because I think they were trying to sort some things out. We eventually got to go inside and I was so excited, I had butterflies and I wasn't even going to perform.  It was only their dress rehearsal to get ready to perform on the real night.

The first person to come up was the teacher who basically explained to us about the message. My favourite part was when the boys hip-hop group came on. I saw a lot of people that used to come to our school. I saw Hame, Dorothy, Travis, Sione, Izzy, Robert, Joyce and more. It was funny when these two boys came up and performed a song about a two player game. My other favourite part was when the KapaHaka came on to do the first item of the show . This is my piece of work about the show.

Rugby Zones

Hi guys, last week on Tuesday I went to Rugby zones with the team. When we got to the park we saw all the Schools that were competing. We had six games we versed Hay Park, May Road, and Barbarians 2 times. We won 3 games, drew two, and lost one. My favourite part of the day was when I got a try and we won our game. It was funny when my friend got hit from a kid from another school. My least favourite bit was that my team kept on getting injured from the other school. If there is another Rugby zones in Intermediate then I am for sure going to join. On the day I think I could've done better on my defence but overall the day was fun. Oh and also we came 2nd which is pretty good for a small school like mine. Bye
Here are some photos of the day.

Interland Work

Hi blogging world, the year sixes in cybersmart have been playing a game called Interland. Interland is a game used for cybersmart so people know what to do with their accounts in case someone hacks them. My favourite mode on this game is the Kind Kingdom because you can help people getting cyber-bullied and you can also eliminate the bullies with speakers. I also like the tower of treasure because you are riding on something and you collect things. Reality River gives you questions to answer to get through the river. The Mindful Mountain tells you to be mindful about what you share even to your friends. This is my poster about the four different modes.

Stop motion

HI guys, today the syndicate came together to make a stop motion. We didn't make one big one, we each did one by ourselves. We made the stop motions with playdough, the colour of the playdough was black and red. My favourite part was making the stop motion because, when I was making and watching my stop motion, the ones I did were really funny. Sadly I forgot to save it and then I had to make one up on the spot. I really enjoyed making these stop motions because I have never made one before and also it was really fun to make. I hope you like my one that I made on the spot. BYE

Technology Rotation

Hi guys, every Friday we have been doing these technology rotations. My class made geoboards out of wood and nails and also rubber bands to put one them. Every Friday we rotated to each class in Te Waka Ako. My favourite one was when we had to make a LED light work with a battery, tape, foil, paper clip, cardboard, LED light. I managed to make it work, for two seconds. I found it hard making the circuit with those things. My favourite part about doing this rotation was learning new things I didn't know before which can help with my learning. This was really fun and frustrating as well, BYE.

Here is me and my finished piece.
Here is JD making his circuit.

Matariki crossover

Talofa lava guys, today the whole syndicate came together to celebrate Matariki. To celebrate Matariki we did a crossover. One group went to make kites and the other two either went to do feathers for the cloak that we made or wen to make necklaces with Ms McClellan. I went to the kite making area first and saved the fun stuff for last. Second I made the feather, I really liked making the feathers because I got to draw and I really enjoy drawing. My favourite out of all of them was the necklace making. It was very fun and when I went home I was wearing it everywhere. My second favourite was kite making with Ms Sands. My third was the feathers with Mr Rattenbury. See you later.

Waikowhai Art Festival

Hi guys Richard here. On Tuesday the schools Art Festival was on. You guys may know that my class painted individual birds that are native to New Zealand.  I used blue for my background as the sky and had a sparrow as my bird. My favourite part of doing the bird painting was the flower because my teacher told me how to shade it and make it look more effective. The reason why I did this bird is because it was really easy to draw and there wasn't that much to do with it. I didn't go to the Art Show so I can't tell you guys what happened but here are is a photo of people weaving at the Art Show.

We also made signs for our house that we built for the Art Show. The sign had to persuade people to stop polluting our country and helping us make it more healthy for our animals. Everyone else did it on their chrome books except for me and my two friends. I enjoyed drawing the sign because when I draw I get more ideas and brainstorm them in my head, then I get one big idea.
Before I did my sign had to do this thing called Train Art which me and my art group made for the new train station that is going to be built underground. The subject was where would we go in a train for mine I did "To the islands of Samoa". My favourite part of doing this was colouring in the drawing I did.

There was one big piece of art that the whole syndicate helped to make it was our big weaving board.  I really liked weaving because I haven't done it before in my life so this is probably my highlight of this term. There is a teacher that helped us and is really good at weaving her name is Mrs Paki.

My Samoan Fale

My Samoan Fale
Hey bloggers, last week in reading we were learning about a tsunami that happened in Samoa. We had to watch a video that gives us some ideas about what happened there. There was a part of the story when the chief of the village had a talk with two scientist they had a talk about how they could make the village safer, one of their ideas were to move the village to the other side of the land. When I finished the video which took me for ages I had to either make a tinkercad or draw the house that would withstand a tsunami or a storm I chose to draw the house. My favourite part of doing this was drawing the house and adding the detail onto it and making it strong enough. Drawing the house was really funny, because when I was drawing it I thought that it was a real house but my friend said that it was a key chain we started laughing it was so funny. HERE IS A PHOTO OF MY DRAWING:

Hauraki's Installation Art

Hi guys, this week my class have been working on our piece of artwork for our school art show.  My class has just built the house all we need to do is put the plastic onto the house so when we put the rubbish in it won't fall out. We recently put the plastic on and painted some flowers on it the flowers didn't stay on because of the rain. It was fun stapling the plastic onto the house but it was scary because I was standing on the stool and stapling the roof. So after making the house and stapling the plastic bags on it we finally added some decorations and all the rubbish we have been saving since the begging of the term. If you want to find more look at the slideshow I made.

Auckland Zoo Trip

Blogging about the Zoo

 WALT: Report, Recount, Reflect

When:We went last week on Thursday the 14.
Where: We went to the Auckland Zoo which is near Western Springs.
What: We went and looked at some animals and even went into the bug lab.
Why:  We went to the Zoo to learn about the animals and we also went for our Inquiry we are learning about "CURIOUSITY".
Who: We went with some parents that volunteered to help with the trip.
How: We travelled by bus but it wasn't a small one it was a double decker.

One event that I liked was Bug lab, Seals, and the Cheaters.
I liked the Bug lab the most because it was dark and their were these kind of mazes you go through and they have different facts inside of them. My favourite part of the Bug lab was the butter-fly maker you could make planes and put them in this big massive tube and they fly out. I felt happy when we saw the seal swimming in the water. The seal was so big I have never seen a seal in person so it was very cool. The first time we went to see the seals they weren't there but the second time we went one was swimming and the other one was scratching itself.

I think that this trip was really fun and cool because we saw different animals and their species. When I saw the Cheater there was only one but then the other one came and I was amazed, like 1 Cheater is cool but 2  you don't get to see that every day. I wanted to see the Cheaters run but I think they were tired.

I would definitely go to the Zoo again because I haven't been to the Zoo like  around four years so it was very fun to go back and look around again.

SEE YOU GUYS NEXT TIME
BLOG YOU LATER.

ART

Hi guys, last week we had a task given to us by our teacher. She gave us a big piece of paper called water strength cartridge paper, we also used high school paint brushes to paint with. Then she told us to draw a native bird to New Zealand onto the piece of strong paper but as always we had to practice it in our art book. I drew a Sparrow for my bird. So after we did all that, the next day we drew the background for the picture. The week after we got to paint, I was so exited to paint, because I haven't painted since last year like literately. My favourite thing about  this whole process was the painting part, the reason I liked the painting better is because I really enjoy mixing colours and making things very colourful. The thing I don't like about my artwork is how I did my bird so terrible. I really wanted to redraw my bird but I already painted it. I could improve my bird because the drawing of it was really poor and I know that I could do better.

What my partner James thought:
My friend liked how my flower was drawn and my bird.
My friend didn't like the tree because a real tree doesn't have zig- zag twigs.
My friend said I could improve on making it better and more colourful.
My friend said that I could have made my grass bigger because he said that all he could see was blue sky.
He said that I could draw the bird bigger and practice the colours in my art book before I put it on the good copy.

If you are interested in art, you could come to Waikowhai Primary Schools special "ART SHOW". Every class in the school has a piece of art to show. So come along and enjoy your time looking at our artwork.
Opening night : 6:15-8;15 Tuesday night 26th June.

This is my piece of art                                               I think I did a good job. keep scrolling down to see my friends artwork

Tiritiri Matangi Trip

Talofa lava blogging world, last Thursday we went to Tiritiri Matangi Island for a senior school trip. We went to the island on the ferry. We each got to go to the top of the ferry in the groups we got put into. When we got to the island we sat down in our groups and the instructor from the island told us about it and what happened. We went for a walk in our groups again and were looking out for birds then writing them down on the piece of paper. I learnt that when the Maori first saw the Nikau they thought there would be coconuts on them but actually there was nothing so they called it the Nikau tree which means no coconuts. When I was on the island I found out a lot of new things about it. We also did a treasure hunt to find little finger puppets. I didn't find that many, I only found one. After all of the hunting and looking we went down to the beach so we could chill and have some relax time but I got injured. After all of that we came back to Auckland and went home. I saw a lot of birds that I didn't know about so it was a great experience to see those birds like a Takahe, Tui, and a Pukeko.

Des hunt visits Waikowhai Primary

Today, Des hunt visited Waikowhai Primary School. He taught us about physics and he showed us some of the books he wrote. Des hunt is a popular writer that writes books for kids. The kinds of book he writes are fiction. He came with his wife Lynne. He showed us his backstory it showed us when he was born and where he was born. He was born in the north island. He studied to be a teacher in wellington and moved to Christchurch to become a actual teacher. He showed us how to make a powerful force out of a lighter he took out the parts of the lighter and made some kind of explosive.

My favourite part of the presentation was when he exploded the balloon it exploded and made a loud sore noise. I liked that part because it got bigger and bigger then it was a green explosion. It was important because the balloon that popped was representing an eel it popped because he told us that an eel get's bigger and bigger until it's system can't handle it anymore. It also represented the tension in a book because the tension gets big then you never know when something is going to happen then BAM it strikes.

Now that I have seen this presentation I want to read more of Des Hunts books. I also want to use him to motivate me to write books

Anzac Day

ANZAC DAY

This week we have been learning information, reading books and discussing Anzac Day. ANZAC day is a day when we celebrate Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought in the war. Our class have been doing different things about Anzac Day like writing acrostic poems and we read storys about the war. We read different storys their was one that was about this village called Le  Quesnoy and the Germans took over but a group of New Zealand soldiers came from across the world and saved the village.  On our first day back from the holidays we had to put the crosses on the grass for the people who died around the Auckland area.

Kiwiana artwork

Hi guys, In art in my class we have been doing some Kiwiana artwork. For our great pieces of art we had to colour our background either warm colours which are red, yellow, pink, and orange, or cool colours which were green, black, blue, and purple. For my background I used warm colours. When we finished our Kiwiana background we had to draw a picture of something native to New Zealand. This picture had to have the opposite colours of what I did for my background. I drew a fern for my picture in cool colours. Blog you later!
